Spiritual Virtues of Ramadhan

Transform your life this holy month

Ramadhan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the standard to distinguish between right and wrong. So whoever is present this month, let them fast. But whoever is ill or on a journey, then ˹let them fast˺ an equal number of days ˹after Ramaḍân˺. Allah intends ease for you, not hardship, so that you may complete the prescribed period and proclaim the greatness of Allah for guiding you, and perhaps you will be grateful. (Qur’an, 2:185)

Ramadhan is here! The Month of Virtues and Blessings; a month full of opportunities for every Muslim to draw closer to Allah S.W.T. and gain an abundance of rewards. A beautiful month, encompassing a very special night, a night better than a thousand months.

The month of Ramadhan and the act of fasting brings many benefits. Below, we have four spiritual ways of the benefits of the holy month!

1. Month of our relationship with the Qur’an

The Holy Book was revealed to our Beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. in the month of Ramadhan! By reciting more frequently, whether it be in private or during taraweeh prayers, we will be able to understand the words of Allah S.W.T.

2. Forgiveness of Sins

“Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favor his favor. But if you turn away, then indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a great Day” (Quran, 11:3)

While forgiveness is an essential part of the faith, it is even more vital in the holy month of Ramadhan. During this month, Muslims seek forgiveness and repentance. The blessed month offers us the opportunity to seek Allah’s S.W.T. forgiveness and mercy, in the hopes of having our sins erased.

When we seek forgiveness, it is key that we are sincere from our hearts and are remorseful of our mistakes and sin.

3. Charity

“Wealth will not be decreased by giving to charity. And a forgiving slave must be rewarded by Allah with authority” (Muslim)

One of the virtues of this month is our eagerness to help those who are suffering. Our Beloved Messenger S.A.W. was the most generous in the blessed month. When we fast and restrict ourselves from food and drink, we’re able to focus on our ibadah. One of it, the noble consequences of charity and having empathy for the underprivileged.

If we know that the rizq of those suffering is written with one of us, we develop a stronger inclination to give. With the reminder that charity never decreases our wealth and that we are always recompensed as Allah S.W.T. has promised, we will always strive to give charity always.

We pray the above virtues are of benefit and may Allah S.W.T. allow us to reap the rewards and blessings to transform our lives in this blessed month, insyaAllah.
